Itinerary

Depending on your flight time we might be able to climb that same day. We'll normally aim to get to the Crag early, around 9am, before the heat of mid-day (but it's your holiday so we're flexible). Most of the approaches are short 5 - 30mins, giving us plenty of time to climb each day. As we only do private guiding, we will tailor the venues and route choice to you / your group. This might mean Single or Multi-pitch, guiding or teaching. Perhaps you want to learn to lead? No problem. Perhaps you would like to have a big adventure. Maybe you want a fun introduction or advanced rescue skills, anything is possible. We'll normally aim to be finished around 4:30pm before dark, and ready to enjoy a delicious evening meal, and relax in the evening. On your final day, we'll drop you back at the airport and say our goodbyes.

Location

The rock climbing around Malaga is dominated by the world-famous gorge at El Chorro. However, there are many other excellent crags within the region that are also inland from Malaga, such as Desplomilandia near El Chorro, Torcal de Antequera, and Archidona near Antequera, Turon near Ardales, and San Bartolo near Tarifa on the coast. Each of these crags offers 100's of bolted sport routes on limestone rock (except San Bartolo which is sandstone), and across a good range of grades.

Situated only 50Km inland from Malaga, the rock climbing area of El Chorro is very diverse and has something for everyone. The main focal point is the huge limestone gorge, which offers some fantastic multi-pitch rock climbing with its own unique atmosphere. There are other crags that offer everything a climber could wish for; from over 650 routes with a good selection of bolted single and multi-pitch routes; excellent limestone slabs, tufas and exceptionally steep walls; most of it within walking distance of El Chorro village and available across the whole grade range. It’s fair to say that El Chorro has become a classic winter climbing venue.

Accommodation

There's a range of available places to stay, we recommend the climbing run Olive Branch which has Camping, Dorm rooms, and private rooms. There are also beautiful apartments and entire villas; something to suit everybody's budget. Booking.com and AirB&B have plenty of options.

flights

There are plenty of low-cost airline services to Malaga airport and return flights can be found for as little as £30 return. Click here to search, and we also recommend checking the Ryan air website directly.

insurance

It's strongly advisable to get travel insurance that covers you for rock climbing activities abroad.
We recommend BMC insurance or Snowcard insurance.
British citizens should bring their European Health insurance card E111 card (Takes about 10 minutes to apply, and 10 working days to deliver).

How much previous experience should I have?

A: It doesn't really matter! Because we only accept private bookings, we'll tailor each course, climb and route to you / your group. You'll be fully guided by an experienced instructor who will teach you relevant skills and techniques, and coach you throughout.

Carbon offsetting

Please consider offsetting your carbon for your holiday; a flight from the UK to Spain costs less than £4 to offset.
